The Cost of Education
* Tuition & Fees (average of in-state and out-of-state rates), Room and Board, & other college fees included. Source: U.S. News and World Report, 2011 (www.USnews.com)
At Study Edge, we do charge for our services, and we understand that many people believe tutoring should be free. Let’s use transportation as an example; taking the bus is free, yet many people still buy scooters and cars. There are people that use both modes of transportation though, and like those people, Study Edge encourages students to utilize all of the resources available to them; the free resources and our paid services, as they see fit. This graph illustrates the average cost of college education. Study Edge provides affordable study expertise and support that is available 24 hours, 7 days a week to both students and parents. On average, students report an expected full letter grade increase after using Study Edge services.
Cost of Study Edge
vs. Textbooks
vs. Private Tutoring
We believe that Study Edge provides the most value per education dollar spent. According to UF, the estimated costs of textbooks for a normal Fall/Spring school year is $1,200*. That’s over $600 per semester, for so called new textbooks (if the difference between the 3rd and 4th edition is that they renumbered the practice problems, it’s not really new). If you were to instead find a private tutor and meet with them weekly (the same frequency that you’d be attending Study Edge for those Chapter and Exam Reviews) you’d spend close to $675 over the school year based on an average cost of $15/hour, which by the way, is an extremely conservative estimate of the cost of a private tutor.
In contrast, the average cost of a membership to Study Edge for a school year is $400 — which includes live tutoring each week, review packets (which cover the same material as your textbook), and personal assistance on any course related question you may have via Study Hours and our Class Walls. Those live weekly tutoring sessions include a Study Guide, chock full of the same material that’s covered in your lecture notes and overpriced textbooks. It also provides a chance to ask a course expert about what to expect on your homework, quizzes, and exams! Study Edge also provides a Class Wall for any member to ask questions on and get immediate answers. And when we say personal assistance we mean it! Every week we hold Study Hours at the campus Library where you can come and receive personal one-on-one help with anything in your course! We truly are there with you every step of the way through your class experience!
