Education: Bachelors of Science in Mathematics, Masters of Science in Mathematics
Jordan, a National Merit Scholar, has been an aspiring math educator for the last 8 years tutoring privately and at the on campus teaching center, and most recently working as a TA in the math department. As a lifelong mathlete, his proudest moment came when he taught himself differential equations and won the state championship, all while in high school. Now that he’s done competing, Jordan takes time off to relax by adventuring, binge watching the latest and greatest TV shows, and studying the art of manliness.

Steven has taught physics labs at the University of Florida and the University of California, Irvine. He also taught AP Physics at Lake Howell High School in Winter Park, Florida, and worked as a neutrino physics researcher at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois. Steven loves road tripping and has driven from Florida to the northern tip of Alaska to New York and back in one trip!

Marty worked as a programmer and troubleshooter for a medical records company before deciding to teach. Once he came back to grad school, he was a TA for Circuits in the electrical engineering department at UF and an instructor in the math department at Santa Fe College. In his spare time, Marty writes electronic music, stays fit, and reads.

Jenn gave up the cold at the University of Utah to come back to the sunny skies at the University of Florida. She has tutored organic chemistry for over 5 years and was formally a tutor for the University Athletic Association. In her ‘free time’ (1 hour a month) Jenn loves to travel, ski, scuba dive, and draw structures for the molecules listed on her shampoo bottle.

Zach was a tutor at the UAA for math and physics for over 12 semesters, but that doesn’t even begin to describe his dedication to the educational profession. He was a math/stats professor at Santa Fe College in Gainesville for 6 years, and has tutored math for over 30 semesters and physics for 12 semesters. All his degrees are from the University of Florida, including a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Masters in Education, and a year of graduate work in the math department. He takes a break about every two weeks by jamming out somewhere in Florida with his reggae band.

Rich started giving lectures in high school for chemistry at the age of 16. In his last two years of undergrad, he was a chemistry TA for General Chemistry 1 and General Chemistry 2. He’s been doing Review Sessions for General Chemistry 1 and General Chemistry 2 for more than 15 semesters and at 3 different schools. If that does not excite you, in his free time, he enjoys turning Asian red, gambling in casinos, traveling, college football, and learning a fourth language.

Ethan, who started as the University Athletic Association tutor for accounting at the age of 19, is a National Merit Scholar and never got a B at the University of Florida (perfect 4.0 GPA). He has been doing Review Sessions for Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting for more than 20 semesters! In his free time, Ethan enjoys traveling, Tivo, skeet shooting, and working with the programmers on the Study Edge Facebook App.

Chris, who graduated Valedictorian from his high school, is the proud owner of a Finance degree from the University of Florida. He was a Teaching Assistant for Business Finance for 4 semesters and a former tutor for the University Athletic Association in 3 different business courses for another 4 semesters. He spends much of his time frequenting the local bars, binge-watching episodes of Homeland, and recounting the glory days of his intramural flag football team. When she’s not tutoring (or Keeping up with the Kardashians), Ashley spends her free time tailgating, cheering for the Gator football team, going on road trips, and working out.

Brett began as an organic chemistry tutor the second he completed orgo 1, and has continued to tutor for 5 years! His goal was to become a dentist but changed his mind, and his now continuing his education to be able to run hospitals! When he isn’t drawing zig-zag lines and hexagons or studying, you might be able to catch Brett on the golf course, at the beach, or grabbing a drink at his favorite bar (Salty Dog)!

Graham, a National Merit Scholar, attended undergrad and law school on a full scholarship. He started his teaching career with SAT review sessions to his basketball team as senior in high school. Now, his main focuses are Economics, Accounting and LSAT. His honors thesis was on “farming subsidies in 3rd world countries,” he has tutored accounting on 5 different campuses for 10 different professors, and scored in the 99.9th percentile on the LSAT. Don’t let his love for sports, wings, and beer fool you, he is most definitely a closet nerd. Oh, and if you want to make his day, use the word Beastmode when asking him any question.

Although it has been said that he can break the laws of physics when he feels like it, for the most part Zach stays pretty grounded. He has been tutoring in various subjects since he was in high school. When he’s not solving physics problems (like it’s no big deal), Zach loves hiking, traveling, writing music, and an occasional triathlon with hopes of one day competing in an Ironman.

Michael has been tutoring for over four years, beginning with Chemistry and Spanish in high school. He found his real passion when he started helping his friends in Organic Chemistry while taking the class, and then continued tutoring other students at the Broward Teaching Center. Outside of Organic Chemistry he enjoys playing tennis, traveling, and reading Harry Potter in Spanish.

Gio works with UF’s high performance computing group, CHREC. In his lab he gets to play with the world’s fastest reconfigurable supercomputer. After he finishes his undergrad studies, he will continue his research with the group by pursuing his Master’s degree. When he isn’t stuck coding in his lab, you can find him with his friends at midtown, catching up on movies or making plans for his next trip.

Claudia finishing up her senior year here at UF by polishing off her classes for her Bioinformatics minor and studying nematodes in her research group. She’s a registered pharmacy technician and in her free time she loves to travel.

Phoebe began tutoring calculus three years ago, and since then has expanded her repertoire to include heavily calculus-based subjects, like differential equations and physics. Currently an undergrad, Phoebe intends to obtain her Master’s in Biomedical Engineering, and hopes to be admitted into medical school thereafter. When she isn’t studying or working, she can be found in the Brain Mapping Lab, going on adventures outdoors, or enjoying concerts and music festivals with friends.

Ali has been pursuing mathematics on a competitive level since 9th grade. He’s had experience tutoring football players and coaching his teammates on various levels for 3 years. Now that his access to competition has dwindled, he’s decided to focus more on the tutoring aspect and to bring everyone as close to the same level of understanding (and maybe even appreciation!) for the subjects as he has. In his free time he likes to work on his coding projects, listen to the latest hip hop, or hone his mathematician skills.

Rafael has tutored everything from Physics to French since high school. He has a passion to learn and teach others. When Rafael isn’t studying or working, he dedicates all his time to his beloved cat. As a cat owner, it is his duty to submit to his cats every command. Gaby is currently an undergrad studying Finance in the School of Business. Although Lan looks Asian (like Rich), don’t let that fool you… She’s French! (OK, she’s Asian too- I guess.) She has been a T.A. for several undergraduate and graduate science courses at the University of Florida and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the McKnight Brain Institute at UF. When she’s not in the lab doing research or helping students get better grades, Lan enjoys playing league tennis and pretty much any sport or game, working on art and house projects, hanging out with friends and family, traveling around the world, and playing in the yard with her puppies, Enzo and Mila.

Blake learned quickly that he could tolerate accounting a lot more than most people and when his grades started to show so he began helping his friends with their accounting coursework. Aaron is currently an undergrad studying to be admitted into a combined DMD/MBA program. He was born in Alaska, so during Florida’s summers he melts. Aaron fell in love with Organic Chemistry during Orgo 1and he started tutoring his friends for fun in Orgo 2. In his spare time, Aaron likes to ski, power lift, and read.

After taking and owning Business Finance as a freshman, Candice conquered the FIN3403 world by becoming a teaching assistant, private tutor to student athletes, and Study Expert all at once. Joey graduated from the 9th best high school in the country in one of the most rigorous STEM high school programs in the world while at the same time being president of his school. When he isn’t tutoring or solving triple integrals, he spends his free time managing his fantasy football team and spending his time in the Rowdy Reptile section at any given Gator game.

After much research and scholarly debate, it has been determined that Josh is, in fact, mortal. Why the debate at all, you ask? Well, when Josh isn’t in class at UF maintaining his 4.0 Business GPA, he’s spending his time tirelessly mastering the art of Business Finance. He is committed to enabling each student who gets tutoring for FIN 3403 to do nothing less than dominate its material. Additionally, Josh loves sports. He wrestled in High School, and plays Intramural Football and Ultimate now. He’s also secretly a mega Star Wars nerd, but no one knows that.

Patrick loves to travel around the world in his off time. When he was seven-years-old he learned how to speak mandarin while hiking the Himalayan mountain range. If he ever gets you a business card it will simply say, “I’ll Call You.”

Zak is currently an undergrad studying in order to be admitted to Pharmacy school. When he first took organic chemistry he had no idea what to expect. Mia lived more than half of her life in Ukraine before moving to the sunshine state. She fell in love with organic chemistry after taking it with Dr. Portmess and was insane enough to take an organic based biochemistry course just for fun. Brandon has been competitive academically since he first stepped foot in a classroom. From spelling bees as a youngster to computer programming competitions, he has always sought ways to prove himself as a top student. Brandon has continued this academic tenacity at UF as a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society. Not willing to let academics be his only challenging venue, Brandon opted to go skydiving before ever having taken a flight before. That’s right, the first plane he ever stepped foot on he later jumped out of.
David is a recent graduate from UF with a B.S. in Astrophysics, but is currently taking part in a Pre-Med graduate program! He has been tutoring for 6 years now and has a love for all things science-related. When he’s not studying or learning, he enjoys cooking, hiking, traveling, and nature.
